Communicate Better Finds Route to Savings

Unified comms provider Communicate Better has won a major deal with Lancashire County Council to supply a mobile TomTom route navigation application for the council’s fleet of winter maintenance vehicles.

The service, which sends bespoke routes to winter maintenance and gritting vehicles over the air using Vodafone’s network, is expected to cut council winter maintenance and gritting costs by at least £120,000 over the first three years.

The deal sees the recently launched TomTom’s ‘fixed routes over the air’ solution used for the first time in Europe. The contract will run for an initial three years with a renewal option.

Mark Dermody, director of Communicate Better, said: ‘This is testament to the hard work of the team at Communicate Better and the ability of our unified comms experts to apply one of the technologies we provide to a critical application which will save our public sector client’s and taxpayers’ money.’

The system routes the vehicles in the most efficient way, taking into account the size of each vehicle and any changes in route.
